learning
He is actually learning stuff!! So he knows how to point to Daddy's nose, ears, eyes, mouth, and hair. Still working on hands, fingers, arms, toes, etc. Also we have restored the cow sound (as in, "what does a cow say"), which was merged with the cat sound for some time now. It seems to be back. And we have added snakes to the repertoire. Today he said "boo boo" when he saw a balloon, which was possibly coincidental or actually communication. Too soon to tell.

update
He now knows what a cow says, what a cat says, what a sheep says, and what a dog says (although recently there has been some cat / cow confusion). He says "bye bye" and blows kisses, which is sweet as pie. He gives hugs - recently he bestowed hug after hug on his friend Jude, until Jude began saying "uh oh" and became somewhat afraid. He LOVES the broom and will push it around for ages (much to Phil's horror, as he pictures the teetering broom crashing into our tv). Lots of imitating what we do. If he sees me and Phil hugging and kissing he comes running over laughing and throws his arms around our legs to join the hug. Then he starts pushing daddy away so he can have me all to himself. Is it wrong that I find that cute?!?! He is focusing on books much better and will sit on his own and look through books. Very into climbing climbing climbing on everything, and has figured out how to push something over so he can climb up on it and scale various pieces of furniture. Scary. He understands loads of stuff, but still only says a handful of words. Lately he has refused to sit down in the tub, which is interesting. There is too much to reach for and touch in the bath. He is getting very persistant and willful! If he wants something, he will go back and back and back and back . . . . Sheesh. Still obsessed with shoes and hats, just like his daddy. He is a dumpling!

He's a walker!
It's official - he's a walker! He still has a bit of a lurching, Frankenstein quality to his walk, with an unsteady gait and a super-wide stance, but he is definitely up and on the go. And today he mastered standing up from a seated position without leaning on the wall. Full steam ahead, baby! In other news, our kisses have dried up for some reason. We cannot get kisses out of him, despite trying incessantly. He will give kisses to his stuffed animals when we ask him to (hmmm, how am I losing out to a stuffed dog?). It's very disappointing. He is obsessed with dropping his toys into things, just to watch them fall, so we are constantly finding little presents in the laundry hamper and our clothes drawers. He has also discovered Daddy's cricket hat, which is a giant white floppy number, and he has taken to plopping it on his head and then toddling off with the hat over his eyes and his vision totally blocked. We should probably get up and make sure he doesn't run into anything . . . . but it sure is funny to watch!

Kisses
Oh my god! I don't know what came over Alby, but tonight when I said goodnight to him, he leaned in and kissed me over and over and over!! Right on the smacker! It was SO cute. And he did the same with Phil earlier in the night - Phil got 5 kisses right in a row. We are both in heaven.

Alby 13 months
Alby's getting close to walking - he stands independently for 20 - 30 seconds at a time and he has taken 1 - 2 steps at a time. He LOVES practicing walking by pushing his cart around (and laughing his head off). He is very into saying "hi" right now. He likes to pick up anything that could be a phone, hold it to his ear, and then say "hi hi hi hi." He also can't stand it if we're out and he sees someone and they don't give him any attention. He flings his arm out toward them, waves, and says hi hi hi until they notice him. Other words are on the horizon; We were playing with a stuffed dog today and I was saying "woof woof woof" and he copied me and said "woo woo woo," which was pretty close!!
